About the Event

In 2009 the Manor Hall Association  reunion dinner celebrated the centenary of the University of Bristol and was held in the Great Hall of Manor Hall on Saturday, 4th July as part of the extensive centenary celebrations throughout the University. The Association was pleased that we could welcome a good number of the Manor Hall alumni to mark this special occasion in the University's history.

Amongst our guests we were lucky enough to welcome the Chancellor of the University of Bristol, The Rt. Hon. The Baroness Hale of Richmond, one of the UK's Law Lords and her husband; Professor Dame Carol Black DBE, a former president of the Junior Common Room Committee and the Students' Union, and a Sub Warden of Manor Hall; her husband the former Vice-Master of Trinity College, Cambridge; and Professor Richard Hodder Williams, the outgoing High Sherif of Bristol.

We were also delighted to welcome Lady Wood, a resident of one of the halls that proceded Manor Hall, who at 100 years of age, shares her birthday with of the University. Lady Wood had an Honorary degree of Master of Arts confered upon her at a special degree congr egation held earlier in the day.

Our guest of honour was Stephen Knight, BSc a former secretary to the Prime Minister's advisor on National Security and now head of corporate servers and security policy in the Wales Office. Mr Knight, a former resident of the hall, delivered a witty account of his time in hall and the evening concluded with entertainments in the bar.
