As part of the University of Bristol Alumni Weekend on 20th July 2019 the Manor Hall Association hosted a reception for the unveiling of a portrait commissioned by the University for the longest serving Warden, Dr Martin Crossley Evans. The portrait was painted by the Bristol artist Mr Lawrence Kell and was displayed at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters' annual exhibition in the Mall Gallery, London in March before coming to the Great Hall at Manor Hall.
The MHA Chairman, Mr Grant Wray introduced Mrs Mary Benton, who is Director of Teaching in the School of Earth Sciences. She gave a heartfelt speech in praise of Dr Crossley Evans and revealed the portrait. Dr Crossley Evans himself also attended the event and gave a speech in response, expressing his love for Manor Hall and the students.
Many Manor Hall alumni through the ages and from around the world attended this event. Among those was an alumni from the early 1950's, Mrs Lilian Brown; former Student Support Administrator, Mrs Nikki Press, and Elton House Award winners. During the event the Elton House Award board was unveiled in the Great Hall. This award was started in 2008 to honour students for outstanding service to the Manor Hall community and continues to be awarded each year.
The event was a good opportunity for alumni and friends to network and help further the aims of the Manor Hall Association, which is working to strengthen the Manor Hall community.
